Methods such as computed tomography (CT) scans, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and positron emission tomography (PET) are used to evaluate the size, location, and spread of the tumor. Biopsy is necessary to determine the textural characteristics of the tumor.

Treatment Options

Treatment of liposarcomas is determined by the size of the tumor, its classification, location, and the general health of the patient. Surgical intervention usually forms the basis of treatment. Complete removal of the tumor is critical to the success of the treatment. However, in some cases, it may not be possible to completely remove the tumor.

Radiotherapy is another method frequently used in the treatment of liposarcoma. High-energy radiation helps target cancer cells, killing them or controlling their growth. Chemotherapy may be used in some cases of high-grade liposarcoma.

Future Directions

General advances in cancer treatment in recent years have also positively affected the management of liposarcomas.
